Watch/Listen – poem videos

Here are my latest two – both from my book of animal poems, Squeak! Squawk! Roar!

Chimpantease

Perhaps ask your child or class –
What else might this cheeky chimp throw?
Can you spot any rhymes? (e.g. chimpanzee/tree, back/smack).
What might he do when you try to shoo him away?

I post regularly on YouTube (KatesPoems111), mostly videos of me reading poems from Squeak! Squawk! Roar!
Here’s the latest: ‘L-L-L Look Out!’

Many children are more comfortable listening to poems than reading them – they can sit, lie down, stroll about, draw, or whatever they want to do, while dreaming along to the poems.

Teachers may also find my poem readings handy as spurs for poetry writing, discussion, topic study enhancements, and for calming down time, perhaps at the end of the school day. I offer a series of ‘Teach Poetry‘ tips & ideas on my channel too, such as this one:

There are also lots of other poems for children to listen to, perhaps while drawing or doing calming craft work – poems about colours, castles, clouds, trees, starting at a new school, and feeling left out in the playground – with lots more to come! There are thoughtful poems, funny ones, fun, fascinating, spooky, chatty… you name it. If they’re not up there yet, they’re on the way!

There’s also a video about me, my book, my young audience, my workshops, and my inspiration: Squeak! Squawk! Roar! Launch Video.

You can also find some of my poems as audio files to listen to, here on SoundCloud.
