Chocolate eggs are yummy and fun, but they’re also expensive, and apparently getting smaller, as manufacturers cut costs to meet the rising price of cocoa. Chocolate eggs are not suitable for all children either, such as those with allergies or hyperactive tendences, nor are they great for little milk teeth. 😬
But an entertaining book 📕avoids all these hitches and promises a dream ride of wonder. While a good story will delight, a book of short, illustrated poems can be picked up and put down, enjoyed in between everything else on Easter Day and onwards…
So here’s a little selfie advert because children really do seem to enjoy the poems in Squeak! Squawk! Roar! and it includes Easter-time animals – a newborn foal, a loving pony (or is it possibly a unicorn?), frolicking bunnies, a fox, a hedgehog, a mouse in the primroses, and more exotically, a baby polar bear. The poems are short, punchy, and full of riddles and quirky surprises, all gorgeously illustrated by artist Hannah Asen.

Of course, there are zillions of other books out there to choose from too, and children benefit from a wide variety!
But if you’re interested, I’m offering freepost, signed copies of Squeak! from now until further notice, personally dedicated to the young recipient. Also available from the usual outlets, of course.
Happy Easter!
